I've read a couple other reviews that were not favorable, and I think Merlot's has either taken them to heart or else these patrons just had a bad night. I recommend them for a special evening, or a memorable experience for a special client. We compared our experiences at other great steak houses - and both agreed that Merlot's is the best. They provided us fresh-brewed coffee and creme brulee at no charge. We then shared a bottle of Rodney Strong cab as we dined - I had a fabulous fillet, and my husband had a 12 oz rib eye that he said was tender and intensely flavorful. The jumbo shrimp appetizer whetted our appetite, and a half order of chopped salad served both of us - and we still had some to take home. We each had a glass of Shiraz - the Kessler was deep and very intense. It was my husband's birthday, and the waiters could not have been more helpful and fun - without being obtrusive. But it was not loud at all - and we had a marvelous time. I was a little fearful when they seated us as there were several very large tables of people close by. One of my big concerns these days is that restaurants are so loud. I will go back just for desert! But the rest of this five star meal was just as perfect! What a Happy Anniversary! Flames sky high and all ended with a carmelized, banana perfection drizzled over pure vanilla bean ice cream. We ordered the banana's foster (recommended for two) and our server brought out the portible gas burner, pan, butter, sliced bananas, brown sugar, rum (and more) and cooked up the desert right in front of us. For desert is where all the stops were pulled out. The Eddie Merlot's original creation of cheddar potatoes with diced jalapeƱo peppers made a great side dish comparable to fresh au gratin potatos or mac and cheese. My wife's peppercorn crusted filet mignon melted faster than a DQ soft serve cone in July and dissappeared quickly with each bite even more satisfying than the last. My bourbon glazed ribeye was cooked to perfection with all the juices and flavors bursting in a symphonic harmony of deliciousness. The aformentioned service was top notch, and the food was even better. After some extensive review searching, chose Eddie Merlot's after deciding to splurge on dinner. We couldn't afford to go out of town with one of us back in school and only making 1/2 the dough, so we skipped the expensive jewelry, watch, etc, type gift and just had a nice evening out for dinner. But, hey, it's our anniversary and this is only once a year. So to my surprise when I got such outstanding and attentive service, I was very appreciative with gratuity even though this might have been the most expensive dining experience I've ever had. I've never been to a restaurant where each table gets a Server (who is really a chef) and a junior server, who maintains your bread, water, table, and boxes your leftovers.
